Starting up

Many of you are wondering why you haven't heard from us, and it's getting very hard to remember to write everyone about what's going on with us, so we're trying a new forum. The website was chosen to be easy to remember- http://www.naplesburning.blogspot.com/ and inspired by the recent rash of trash burning that has turned our life upside down recently.

You've probably seen the news, or you can go to youtube.com and search Naples Trash Crisis to get an idea of what's going on here. We are in the process of signing a lease on a new house, and moving to an island of sanity in the sea of anarchy that is Naples.

We had a wonderful wedding celebration on the Amalfi Coast and you can see photos of that happy event at http://www.kriscameron.com/JennyAndNate/

We haven't had a chance to post the photos of our Naples Trash Experience which range from the mildly cute (trash bags tied in trees to keep dogs out of them like some bizarre disgusting fruit) to mindboggling (piles of trash 12 ft tall, 300 feet long, filled with plastics, furniture, oil, tires, appliances, etc burning with a smouldering sense of menace). It really is something that you have to see to believe, and is so bad it's forcing us to move. Thankfully there is a small oasis in the midst of this Dante'esque scene, called Monte di Procida, where we now have a house with a beautiful view of the Med and no trash in the streets. We would be proud to have you visit us here and show you the better parts of Italy we've found in this region.

Please feel free to reply and we hope to hear from you all.

Jenny and I have finally moved into our new house in Monte di Procida, which is a little village about 25 km from the airport and along the sea. For those of you who were at our wedding and those of you who have view our pictures, you will understand when I say that our view is almost exactly like the Villa views in Ravello. It's beautiful with a perfect view the Med from our roof top. However, the very best part of the move is this: Jenny and I are feeling much, much better and no longer getting sick from the burning trash and garbage.

Of course it is probably difficult for many of you to completely understand and comprehend the environmental travesty that has developed here in Napoli. However, suffice it to say that we will write more as the weeks and months progress so that you all can gain a better understand of how Napoli is truly a third-world land surrounded by first-world nations.

More to follow. Best to all!

Nate
